Why should you use a Standing Desk?
Standing desks are a growing fad for those who spend a large portion of their day on the computer. While it may be a “fad”, the benefits of using one are undeniable. Whether that time is spent at work, school, or a combination of the two, a standing desk can be used to greatly improve the quality of your life.
I’ve spent a considerable amount of time sitting at the computer. I’ve always been a tall guy and I have trouble finding desks that I can comfortably “fit” in without my knees hitting the top of the desk, and me having to slouch over in the desk to get comfortable. Eventually all that slouching caught up with me and caused me significant pain.
How would a standing desk improve the quality of my life?
In the two months I’ve been using a standing desk, I haven’t experienced any back pain. For me, that alone is almost a miracle, but you don’t need to have a history of back problems to benefit from a standing desk. When you use a standing desk, you burn more calories per day than you do when sitting. While that may seem obvious, I’m talking about a substantial difference. Check out this calculator to see how many more calories you’d burn if you where using a standing desk for 8 hours a day. That’s not all though, countless studies show that sitting for long periods of time has a serious impact on your life. Lastly, when you spend more time standing, you feel more energetic, the idea of getting up and working out doesn’t sound so hard all the sudden.
